SeaWorld has long restricted its trainers from swimming with Tilikum, the 6-ton killer whale that pulled trainer Dawn Brancheau to her death last week. However they continue to exploit the animals for their own financial benefit. What has this got to do with Licensing you may ask? Well many of the caged animals have become famous in their own right and their image is licensed on all kinds of merchandise and promotional activities. Keiko and Shamu are 2 past examples of exploited orcas held in captivity. We think that in the 21st Century this type of performance using intelligent animals, which in the wild would roam for thousands of kilometres, should stop. Do you agree?
